Bui Makes Another Contribution by Launching the Rural Teaching Scholarship

Mrs. Porntip Nakhirunkanok Simon, founder of Angels Wings Foundation International, has taken another impressive step in her philanthropic efforts on behalf of Thailand by announcing the launch of the “Creating Hometown Teachers” scholarship program, The former Miss Universe, who is affectionately known as “Bui.” conceived of this exciting new initiative as a means of expanding educational opportunities for underprivileged children. The program will increase the number of teachers in rural areas, raising educational standards in some of the poorest and most underserved regions of our nation.

Bui’s efforts were previously focused on alleviating the suffering of populations affected by the tsunami of 2004. While those commitments are ongoing – the Angels Wings Foundation continues to support orphanages, rebuild homes, and offer food, medical aid, transportation and other necessities the scholarship program is intended to tackle the problem of entrenched poverty through education. Great teachers are truly the heroes of a community, imparting the invaluable gift of knowledge as well as offering moral guidance and a sense of hope. By nurturing great teachers within their own communities, the Rural Teaching Scholarship will have a ripple effect throughout the nation, enlightening and empowering a new generation of youth.

Scholarship recipients must demonstrate a commitment to obtaining a Bachelor’s Degreee and pursuing a major in Education. They must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, share a passion for teaching and be committed to serving in the municipal schools of their home provinces.

“By remaining and working in their home areas, these teachers will become role models.”
